Sighting (7:31 min)

Still-life: Mug, carafe, plate, kettle. Pencil in hand, one eye closed, arm extended and held stiff, RA aims at the mug. Top of the pencil aligned with the top of the mug. Slide the thumb down to line up with the mug's bottom. That unit of measure [and others as needed] is used to measure and place every object in the drawing. The artist stresses that all measures are approximations and will be redrawn as the drawing develops, since every artist sees more the longer they work. There are no errors, only refinements.
